RE-Creation II
Coinciding with the Armory Art Fair and in collaboration with Carmichael Gallery, Ogilvy & Mather New York will host Re-Creation II, a global exploration of emerging art, from March 5th through July 2010.
The exhibit will be held at the new Ogilvy & Mather headquarters on New York City’s West Side. Re-Creation II will showcase some of the most important emerging contemporary street artists from around the world.
Large-scale murals, installations and original canvas, sculpture and mixed media works will be on display from Will Barras, Simon Birch, Boxi, Ethos, Mark Jenkins, Labrona, Aakash Nihalani, Nina Pandolfo and WK Interact. Many of these artists, who are based in the UK, Hong Kong, Germany, Brazil, the US and Canada, have never shown in New York before, and have never shown together.
Ogilvy & Mather will transform six floors and the lobby space of its new headquarters in The Chocolate Factory into a museum-quality exhibition space. As viewers ascend each floor, they can experience the upward momentum of the artwork. Re-Creation II is the second exhibit to be hosted by Ogilvy & Mather in its new space. It follows the inaugural Re-Creation exhibit, which featured the work of 12 emerging artists who use recycled materials to create unique forms of art. That exhibit will also be viewable through the end of March.
Carmichael Gallery is one of the world’s leading establishments for discovering and launching the careers of the best in emerging international talent. The annual program of the Los Angeles-based gallery consists of a series of solo and group exhibitions that document the progress of these artists. Carmichael Gallery is located at 5795 Washington Boulevard, Culver City CA. For more information, visit www.carmichaelgallery.com.
The opening reception of the exhibit will be held on Friday, March 5 from 7:00 pm to 10:00pm with several of the artists in attendance at Ogilvy & Mather. The exhibition will run through July 31, 2010.

every day i am.
every day i am. i get up. i eat. i go out.
sometimes i feel well. sometimes i have a flu. sometimes i'm tired. sometimes i'm happy.
and around me is the world.
wars. riots. presidents and prime ministers.
newspapers. the internet. news. advertisments.
and other people.
which i know well. and which i meet the first time.
sometimes it's hot. sometimes it rains.
strikes. accidents. disasters. spilt tea. a lost key.-Peter Fuss

Once stripped of their "usefulness", I ask, "how do these objects or materials grow, now that they have lost their original function?". I imagine that the resulting components have their own bodies and though accumulation are intent upon working together to grow an even larger body. As in nature, where specific mathematical principles provide structure while allowing countless variations, I create strict boundaries that insure a pattern, but within which the outcome is ultimately unknown.... Contemplating the Void
Contemplating the Void: Interventions in the Guggenheim Museum
Feb 12-Apr 28, 2010
Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum
Since its opening in 1959, the Frank Lloyd Wright–designed Guggenheim building has served as an inspiration for invention, challenging artists and architects to react to its eccentric, organic design. The central void of the rotunda has elicited many unique responses over the years, which have been manifested in both site-specific solo shows and memorable exhibition designs. For the building’s 50th anniversary, the Guggenheim Museum invited more than two hundred artists, architects, and designers to imagine their dream interventions in the space for the exhibition Contemplating the Void: Interventions in the Guggenheim Museum.
Organized by Nancy Spector, Chief Curator, and David van der Leer, Assistant Curator for Architecture and Design, the exhibition will feature renderings of these visionary projects in a salon-style installation that will emphasize the rich and diverse range of the proposals received.

The Room of Sublime Wallpaper (II)
The Room of Sublime Wallpaper (II)
APF LAB
15 Wooster Street
Closes Saturday, Feb 20, 2010
Opening hours: Sat-Sun, 12-6pm
Ellen Harvey is a British born artist who currently lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. She has exhibited extensively in the U.S and internationally and was most recently included in the 2008 Whitney Biennial.
Previously seen at the NADA Art Fair with Stephan Stoyanov's Gallery, The Room of Sublime Wallpaper (II) is one of Ellen's latest installations and can be viewed at APF LAB till February 20th, 2010.
Looking into the room, the viewer sees a room wallpapered in newspaper containing a salon-style hanging of glowing landscape paintings that seem to move as the viewer approaches them. It is only upon entering the room that it becomes apparent that the “paintings” are in fact angled mirrors reflecting the hidden painted walls of the room and the illusion is shattered by the intrusion of the viewer’s reflection. The most luxurious (hand-painted) and the poorest (newspaper) forms of wallpaper are juxtaposed much as the escapist fantasy of art’s reach for the sublime is disrupted by the alternately dire and ridiculous “news” of our time.
